Spring Break has arrived, Daylight Savings Time is in effect, time to think about a vacation....

Willingham Ranch Fire – June 25, 2011

At approximately 3:30 pm on Saturday, June 25, 2011, residents around Possum Kingdom Lake began to see smoke from a fire reportedly located on the Willingham Ranch on PK's West Side.

According to eye witness reports, if you are on the Airport / Willow Road area on PK's north side, you are directly across from the part of the Willingham that is on fire.  The fire is on the ridge above the water.  According to radio reports, fire personnel say the fire appears to be growing fast.

4th Of July @ Possum Kingdom Lake

Despite the wild fires recently Possum Kingdom Lake is still planning on having their fireworks show in Hells Gate on July 2nd.  On July 3rd the fireworks will be @ Possum Hollow.  Both shows are definatley worth going too.  The lake is as beautiful as always, so come out and join us on the water!

Rhoades Ranch Fire

June 14, 2011 - there is a new fire, the Rhoades Ranch Fire, burning west of Hwy 337 and north of Hwy 180. 

Folks around PK Lake can see the large plumes of smoke.  According to the Texas Forest Service's InciWeb site, the fire has burned approximately 750 acres and has a high potential for growth due to weather conditions (high temps and low humidity).  The cause of the fire is not yet known.

The fire jumped the 101 road and is north of Hwy 180, approximately 3/4 mi from Hwy 337 as of 9 pm last night.  According to the Lake Country Sun, It had worked its way west of Dye Lane south of Graford, and firefighters were working to save a residence.  We will provide updates as information becomes available.

Post-Fire Property Values at Possum Kingdom Lake

Having worked through the 2009 fire on the west side of PK we have some good information and experience to guide us both through the recovery and clean up as well as regarding effects on property values. First and foremost, we learned that the effect on property value is very area and property specific. While we can have an overall assessment of values in the market that are based on market data, as has always been the case at PK, all areas and properties are not the same like they are in the "city" neighborhoods.

Some key points:

 

• While the landscape has changed in two developments, the rest of the landscapes were virtually untouched.
• The energy from homeowners and the POA boards to ensure that affected communities rebound quickly is very strong.

So much to do and take in now that we're back to the Lake!

 

Can't believe all the work going on by both United Coop and the PK Water Supply Company.  The firefighters did an amazing, superhero-type job to be sure, but the work being performed by the utility companies cannot be discounted or overlooked.  

 

United Coop has what seems like an army methodically and quickly marching through neighborhoods working to restore service to customers in the "affected areas."  The PKWSC, with only a handful in their army, was able to turn up water to essentially all of GB today - no small feat! (Note, boil water notice in place.) Makes us feel like "occupancy" in GB is only a heartbeat away.

On Saturday I started a dedicated page in our website to facilitate accurate reporting of information about the west side fire. My goal was to provide a resource to homeowners that contained information from trusted sources, namely our company agents and a few others who I knew would provide reliable, accurate details.  Never did I dream by the end of the day that our precious community would be surrounded by fire. 

Since then, this simple page has grown to include reports from other people, locals and weekenders alike, all wanting to be helpful and provide details for their neighbors.  I've tried to be careful to post factual information only.  And our page has had more than 30,000 page views in the first 36 hours.  Unbelievable.

Be sure to come out and enjoy the beautiful wild flowers here at the lake.   Alot of the roads around the lake are great for all your Spring picture taking in the Blue Bonnets.
