"If you're lucky enough to live at the lake, you are lucky enough."
"Choose a job that you love and you'll never work a day in your life."
These are two sayings that I have heard for years. Now they are words that I live by, and I realized that just recently.
I generally work every day, all day long. Sometimes the hours can be quite long. It's actually a pretty good time most of the time though, like when I'm meeting new people and showing houses, or working on a marketing plan for a property I've listed. Just like any work though, there are times when I have to work on the mundane (but oh-so-necessary) tasks that comes with my profession, like file maintenance, working on mailing lists and so on. Just the other day, when I was doing one of these less exciting tasks, it dawned on me ... I don't have any more "bad days at the office!" And what a great feeling that was, realizing I'd finally escaped from that!
It's a liberating feeling to realize I absolutely love what I do – something that also has just occurred to me. And when I think of what my job is exactly, I realize it has nothing to do with selling real estate - in fact I don't sell real estate at all! We are lucky enough to have the unique opportunity to introduce people to Possum Kingdom Lake and the lifestyle here ... and I'm almost embarrassed to tell you this, but when you do this well, the real estate essentially sells itself. It's just a matter of exposing my clients to the property that best suits their needs, helping them connect with that one property they can see themselves actually living in.
Make no mistake about it, there is a lot of work to do once a client has selected the home they want to purchase – from preparing the offer, submitting it to the sellers agent and resubmitting any counter offer if necessary, there is a lot of work that goes into turning that dream into a reality, but I love that part, too. Negotiating, tending to the details, checking off the long list of things that must be done to get to the closing table, but nothing compares to sharing in the client's excitement as the closing day gets closer.
To anyone who's ever bought a lake home, you know what I'm talking about. To everyone else ... well, you just have to come experience it for yourself.
I am pretty thrilled to realize these new things about my life and my new profession - I look foreward to sharing more slices of my PK life with you. Until next time ....
